Six get 20 years RI for kidnapping

The convicts are Moti, Sojon, Shahed, Shahidullah, Lal Mia and Abul Kashem, court sources said. The court also fined each convict Tk 3,000, in default, to suffer five months'more RI.

Another convict, Hanifa was given 10 and a half years imprisonment. The convict was also fined Tk 1,000, in default, to suffer two months' more RI.

The convicts forcibly entered the house of Usman Gani at Matuar Kanda village in Kuliarchar upazila on February 28, 1999. They ransacked the house and looted valuables and injured inmates before kidnapping Usman Gani.

Four of the convicts-Sojon, Shaheed, Lal Mia and Abul Kashem-were tried in absentia.
