Three rapists get life in Rajshahi

The three convicts raped eight girls after alluring them to be provided with jobs in Panchagarh.

The convicts are: Ataur Rahman, director of Panchagarh based non-governmental organisation (NGO)- Samaj Kallyan Sangstha, and his accomplices Anukul Roy and Laila Khatun. Of them, Anukul Roy has been absconding.

Ataur and Anukul raped eight girls in collaboration with Laila Khatun at Laxmipur in Debiganj upazila, Panchagarh on the night of August 1, 1998.

Debiganj police detained the girls on the following day of the rape. But they recorded the case after 12 days of their arrest as unrest brewed in the area.

On September 24, 1998, police submitted charge-sheet of the case which was shifted to Rajshahi Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal on December 27, 2002.

Judge of the tribunal AFM Aminul Islam delivered the judgement in a packed court room.
