Close link among NGOs, govt bodies needed, workshop told
The workshop on Water and Life was jointly organised by the NGO Forum, World Health Organization (WHO) and the Department of Public Health and Engineering (DPHE). It was held at the Zila Parishad auditorium here on Monday.
Contribution of local NGOs is vital for the success of the plan, Iqubal Azad, Senior Regional Officer of the NGO Forum's Dhaka office said. The NGO Furum will welcome any initiative by any NGO in this regard, he added.
Developing hygienic sanitation habits and healthcare knowledge among rural people are very important preconditions, for which involvement of grassroots level NGOs are needed, he asserted.
Manikganj Deputy Comm-issioner Mohammad Abdul Bari, Civil Surgeon Dr Abdul Mannan addressed the inaugural session with ASM Nurul Alam, chairman of ARAB, an NGO, in the chair.
Representatives of different government agencies, teachers, doctors, journalists, Imams of mosques, NGO workers and students of colleges and universities took part in the workshop.
DPHE Executive Engineer Shamsul Haque Pramanik, Engineer Abdul Mannan, professors Sanjib Chowdhury, ASM Abul Bashar addressed the main session.
They said a well-coordinated joint campaign by all the stake holders can attain the target well ahead of 2010.
For that, roles of different stalk-holders should be specified in the light of national policy.
