'Introduce one-stop service at Mongla port'
Commodore (Retd) Md Khurshed Alam, Chairman of MPA, presided over the meeting, held at its conference room.
The port users demanded shifting of customs house from Khulna to Mongla, introduction of one-stop service at the customs station and more dredging in the port channel. They said they have to face a lot of problems now in getting customs clearance.
They demanded immediate setting up of a container yard at Mongla Port and extension of the 'free time' for containers from 15 days now to 30 days.
While stressing the need for proper maintenance of stacking yard and roads inside jetties, the port users also appealed for reducing freight charges and construction of bridges over rivers from Dhaka to Mongla.
MPA Chairman MK Alam assured members of the Shippers' Council more facilities at less cost and requested the president of Steamer Agants' Association to reduce freight charges.
President of Shippers' Council Farhad Ahmed Akhand and representatives of Mongla Dock Workers' Management Board were present in the meeting.
