Agitation in Bhola for dam rebuilding
Several thousand erosion affected people of Ilisha and Kachia unions held a rally and brought out a procession in the town on Friday for protection of their areas from erosion by the Meghna.
They carried placards and chanted various slogans demanding reconstruction of five- kilometre river embankment there and dumping of cement blocks.
The portion of the embankment collapsed in the rainy season last year.
The rally held on Kharkia High School ground was presided over by Kachia Union Parishad Chairman Shahabuddin Ahamed.
The speakers said over one lakh people will be affected and crops on about 2000 acres in the two unions will go under water in the coming rainy season if the embankment is not reconstructed.
