Anti-trafficking body formed in Kushtia

An anti-trafficking forum was formed here at a daylong workshop, held at the Kushtia Zila Parishad auditorium on Monday.

Advocate Manjury Begum, also a social worker, and journalist Amanur Aman, a research fellow at Kushtia Islamic University, were made convenor and member secretary of the forum respectively.

The workshop was organised jointly by Nari-o-Sishu Unayan Sangstha (NOSUS) a local NGO and Bangladesh chapter of Anti-trafficking Networks (ASTECK).

Chaired by NOSUS Executive Director Momtaz Roomi, it was addressed by, among others, Kushtia Civil Surgeon Dr Nazrul Hossain Choudhury, Kushtia Jail Superintendent Rezaul Karim, BDR Captain Masud Reza, AKM Reaz Uddin of ASTECK Bangladesh,

District Women Affairs Officer Kaniz Rasul and NOSUS Director Fariza Raihan.

Jayadul Haq Matin conducted it.

Speakers at the workshop said creating awareness among people and stringent punishment to culprits are the only ways to check trafficking.
