Former Shanti Bahini man killed by party activists

A former member of now defunct Santi Bahini (armed wing of Parbattya Chhagram Jana Sanghati Samity) was hacked to death allegedly by fellow members at Kugurmara in Naniarchar upazila Tuesday night, police said yesterday.

Army personnel recovered the body of Shanti Ranjan Chakma, 45, Wednesday morning along with some bullets and 'tokens' from the spot.

Police claimed that said Shanti was a member of PCJSS' armed wing and that he was killed in a dispute over sharing toll money.

Son of Bhubon Chandra Chakma of Kugurmara Asrayan Prokolpa, Shanti had returned to normal life by surrendering arms after the 1997 Chittagong Hill Tracts peace agreement between the PCJSS and the then government, police said.

The body was handed over to the victim's relatives after autopsy at Rangamati hospital morgue.
