7 held in Jhalakati bomb blast incident

Police claimed that the bomb exploded while being made, killing one of the makers, Dalim, 26.

The seven are Azmir Hossain Talukder and his brother Kasem Talukder, owners of Halima Boarding; its manager Ruhul Amin and employees Anisur Rahman, Matar Rahman and Bellal Hossain; and boarder Zahid Hossain Khan Montu.

Police interrogated and produced them before court, which sent them to jail.

Sub-inspector Golam Masud lodged a case accusing three persons under the Explosives Act.

They are Abdus Sattar Babul alias Boma Babul; his brother Zahid Hossain Babu, an alleged professional bomb maker and supplier; and Azmir Hossain Talukder, one of the owners of the boarding and a journalist.

Boma Babul, critically injured in the blast, was sent to Dhaka Pongu Hospital from Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital under police custody.

It was alleged that the bombs were being made for creating violence during Jhalakati pourasava election, scheduled to be held today.

Sources claimed that the alleged bomb makers are supporters of Halim Gazi, ex-municipal chairman and a rebel BNP leader contesting for the post of pourasabha chairman.

Azmir Hossain, in a statement said he has been falsely implicated in the case as he criticised alleged misdeeds of ruling party leaders in the district.
