BNP allowed, opposition barred
Police on Wednesday foiled an attempt to form a human chain in the town to protest alleged rigging in the recent municipal polls but allowed another formed by BNP protesting the murder of Awami League lawmaker Ahsanullah Master.
Police foiled the move when the Committee to Resist Vote Dacoity and Realise Re-election, a forum of five defeated chairman candidates, tried to form a human chair at the Chowmohana square to press re-election in Moulvibazar Municipality.
But they did not disturb when BNP-backed Jatiyatabadi Hawkers Federation formed a human chain nearby, protesting Ahsanullah Master's murder.
The Assistant Police Superintendent who was present there told this correspondent that police foiled the former programme in the interest of maintaining law and order.
