Unrest at Akis Bidi Factory

The factory workers are agitating for about a month for pay hike and payment of Tk 20 arrears.

Workers claimed that the owners have declared the factory "partially closed". There are about 5,000 workers at the factory.

They alleged that they went to police to file a case against factory manager Khorsed Alam, but police did not accept their case. Their leaders are fleeing homes now, fearing arrest.

The workers alleged that some goons allegedly hired by the factory manager attacked workers when they were holding a meeting with the manager on May 6 regarding their demands, injuring 30 people.

When contacted Khorsed said the case has been filed as some "unruly labourers are trying to damage the factory".
