From darkness to light

"I spoiled my life. I do not want to spoil the life of my children", said Janto Mia, one of their 12 ring-leaders at the solemn and simple function held recently at the Eidgah field at Tarua village in Ashuganj upazila, attended by village elite.

Some local elite in cooperation with Grameen Bank arranged their return to normal life. Oo one from the administration was present. The Police Superintendent was kept informed, local people said.

Some of the ring-leaders told the meeting that more thieves and dacoits would return to normal life.

Some of them said good sense started haunting their minds when they saw their children did not like them and their bad deeds. Their children felt shy to join others in the society.

At the meeting, Grameen Bank official Shahnaj Parvin said her bank will provide Tk 5000 loan to each of the 50 people for income generating activities. Bigger loans will be given if they repay the loan and lead honest life, she said.
