Medicine worth several lakhs taka looted

Medicine and goods worth several lakhs of taka were looted from the District Reserve Store (DRS) of Medicine of the Health and Family Planning Department here on Saturday.

According to police and departmental sources, the dacoits entered the store by breaking open the collapsible gates and its main door at dead of night.

Two night guards Abdul Malek Sarder,35, and Abdur Rab,34, were injured by the dacoits.

In absence of the civil surgeon of Barisal, Dr Abdul Malek, deputy civil surgeon Dr Jahangir Hossain replied to the queries of journalists and admitted the fact. 'The extent of loss is yet to be ascertained,' he told them.

Police and health officials visited the spot.
