One more abducted in Kushtia
In another incident on the same night, villagers foiled an abduction attempt in Daulatpur upazila.
Police said a gang stormed into the house of one Bahar Ali at Sadarpur village in Mirpur and picked up his son Mahibul Islam, 18, on gunpoint.
The captors demanded Tk one lakh ransom and threatened to kill him if police is informed. The family did not file any case fearing reprisal.
In Daulatpur, some miscreants entered the house of one Manir Uddin Ahmed, owner of Bhai Bhai Hatchery at Pachamadia village and demanded Tk 50,000 toll.
As Monir declined, they picked up Monir's son Raihan, 30, at gunpoint and asked the family to pay Tk two lakh for his release. The family members cried for help, that drew villagers and members of the Village Defence Party.
Being chased, the gang left Raihan and fled away firing shots.
Incidents of abduction for toll and ransom has increased in the district alarmingly. At least 13 people were abducted this month.
Police could not rescue any of the abducted person while four of them are still missing. The rest bought their freedom.
