Police file case after 88 days of incident

In the case, Sub-inspector (SI) Abu Siddiquee of Bagmara police station mentioned Golam Rabani Mukul of Konopara, Bagmara as a member of outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party.

He further mentioned that villagers lynched him at Taherpur school field terming him as a killer. He died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

Terming the case as 'false and fabricated' Mukul's family members said the case was lodged to save Bangla Bhai and his cadres.

No case was filed by the family members so far for fear of revenge by the JMJB cadres.

Sources said, identified JMJB cadres kidnapped poultry businessman Mukul, loyal to Awami League from his Konopara house on April 11 morning.

JMJB cadres took him to Taherpur School field in the evening and beat him up with iron rods and hockey sticks after hanging him upside down from a bamboo of a dais made for an Islamic meeting.

Afterwards, Mukul was handed over to police who first shifted him to Bagmara hospital and later shifted to RMCH where he died on April 18.

Mukul's family members claimed that Bangla Bhai himself beat Mukul in presence of policemen and sound of torture on him was made public through loudspeaker.

"Mukul had no link with outlaws, but he had enmity with local influential persons", according to an investigation report of Taskforce against Torture, a human rights (HR) organisation.
