Satkhira pry teachers' rally to press demand
About 2000 teachers took part in the programmes. The started from Shahid Abdur Razzan Park, paraded the main streets and then squatted on the road in front of Satkhira New Market and held a rally there, obstructing traffic.
The rally was addressed by, among others, Abdus Sattar, Nazim Ahmed, Sheikh Mujibar Rahman, Abdul Hamid, Rafiqul Islam, Abdur Razzak adn Nimai Chandra.
The speakers said Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, while she was Leader of the Opposition, had expressed her solidarity with the movement of the non-government primary teachers. But she has forgotten her promise now.
They called upon primary teachers to continue the movement to realise their demand. They also urged all the teachers to join the grand rally to be held on July24 at the Central Shahid Minar in Dhaka.
Later they submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the Deputy Commissioner to fulfill her earlier premise.
