JCD men at CU stage sit-in, ask for removal of finance deptt head

JCD activists led by its General Secretary MR Chowdhury Milton staged the sit-in for two hours from 11:00am.

They also held a rally in front of the administrative building and threatened to continue the movement until the appointment was cancelled.

Chaired by M R Chowdhury general secretary of JCD Chittagong University unit, the rally was addressed, among others, by JCD leaders Shafiqul Islam Sadeq and Khorshed Alam

The CU authorities on Saturday appointed Jamaat-backed teacher Dr. Md. Zahirul Haq the chairman of the Finance Department.

Earlier, Dr Zahir was sacked from the university in 1995 for his alleged involvement in question paper leakage. Later, he got back his job under special consideration.

When contacted, VC Professor AJM Nuruddin Chowdhury told The Daily Star that the appointment was made following a legal decision.
