School dropout rate high in coastal areas

The seminar on 'Problem of Education for Disadvantaged Children in Coastal Areas' was jointly organised by NGOs Gana Sakharata Avizan (GSA) and Sodesh. It was held at Satkhira Pourasava auditorium.

Principal Asit Kumar Mojumdar chaired the seminar, addressed by, among others, former lawmaker Srigdha Haq, journalist Anisur Rahim, Kalyan Bannerjee, Karuzzaman, Principal Sheikh Abdul Wadood, Advocate Farida Akhtar Banu, UP Chairman Abdur Rahman, Tahmina Islam, Prof Shamima Nargis, Sheikh Azahar Hossain, Abdur Sabur Biswas, Neli Afrin and GSA Programme Manager Syed-ul-Alam Kazal

The speakers stressed the need for creating awareness among parents to send their children to school and among shrimp farm owners not to employ children.

Teachers, members of the elite and representatives of some local NGO took part in the seminar moderated by Madhab Dutta.
