Five extortionists held after gunshots with cops in Khulna

The arrested are Shatya Mandol, 28, Bikash Sana,28, Ramesh Chandra Mandol,30, Chinmoy Sana,27, and Shanjoy Mandol,28, of Garhuikhali village in Paikgachha upazila.

All the arrested are cadres of the newly-emerged Chhinnomul Communist Party (CCP). Police recovered a foreign-made gun and a revolver from them.

Following their arrest, the outlaws were severely injured by Dakop thana police during interrogation. They are now undergoing treatment in police custody in the Upazila Health Complex.

Dakop thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nasiruddin told this correspondent the arrested outlaws went to Dakop to realise illegal toll amounting to Tk 10 lakh from a shrimp trader.

However, he did not disclose the shrimp trader's name

for security reason.

A deadlock has been created in shrimp trade in Dakop and Paikgacha upazilas due to menace of CCP cadres who demand illegal toll regularly from the traders giving death threats to them for non-payment of illegal toll, according to Khulna Superintendent of Police (SP).
