AL leader Rob murder trial ends: Verdict soon

The trial of the case ended in Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal on July 19. The trial began in May after being transferred from Khulna.

Rob's wife Altamas Begum Panna did not appear before the court during trial. So, her deposition as the most important prosecution witness of the case could not be recorded.

However, the slain leader's eldest son and complainant of the case Arifur Rahman Mithu gave his deposition in the trial.

Thirteen persons were chargesheeted in the case. No complainant or any prosecution witnesses gave deposition against any of the 12 chargesheeted persons except Rob's body guard Rangulal. He made a confessional statement in court under Section 164. The case was transferred to Rajshahi as Additional District Judge-1 Didar Ali Fakir was embarrassed to try it

Rob was gunned down by outlaws at noon on August 11, 2000 near his house at Sonadanga.
