Tk 80 cr flood damage in Moulvibazar

Primary losses in flood in the district have been estimated to be around Tk 80 crore.

However, the loss may exceed Tk 100 crore as a vast tract of land in the district is still under floodwater, according to official sources.

The primary assessment has been done by different government organisations here.

About 9 lakh 71 thousand 530 people have been affected directly or indirectly by the deluge.

Floodwaters have submerged 1,191 square kilometre area of 60 unions and four municipalities in six upazilas here. The situation is grim in 51 unions and two municipalities.

About 4 lakh 64 thousand 242 people of one lakh 74 thousand families have been affected.

Agriculture sector has incurred a loss of Tk 42 crore 1 lakh 11 thousand and 997. Crops on 39 thousand 244 acres of land have been damaged completely. Aus paddy, aman seed beds, transplanted aman paddy and vegetable on 63 thousand 892 acres of land have gone under water.

Road communication in the district has been shattered completely by the disaster. Loss in this sector has been estimated at Tk 7 crore due to damage in 829 kilometre pucca and kutcha roads.

As many as 200 kilometre embankments have been damaged, of those 64 kilometre damaged completely and 136 kilometre partially. An amount of Tk 3 crore has been lost in this sector.

About 142 metre bridges and culverts have been damaged incurring a loss of Tk One crore.

Loss in Fisheries sector has been estimated at Tk 23 crore 58 lakh 22 thousand and 500.

About 4716.45 metric tons of fish have been washed away due to over-flooding of 20,703 ponds and water bodies.

The Poultry Sector has incurred a loss of Tk 3 lakh.

Education sector is the worst-affected sector as 28 high schools and colleges, 263 madrassahs and primary schools have been damaged.
