'Mastermind' dropped from charge sheet

Police yesterday chargeheeted eight persons in Hafez Abu Bakkar Siddique Murder case by dropping four persons including the alleged mastermind.

Noor Mohammad Sheikh, Officer-in-Charge of Kaligonj thana, who is the investigation officer (I.O) of the case, submitted the charge sheet to a First class Magistrate's court after about six months' investigation, court sources said.

The eight are Zohur Ali, Ahmed Ali, Abdul Khaleque, Abu Bakker, Mukul, Rezaul and Harun, all of Magri village, and Anisur Rahman of Bagbati village in Kaligonj Upazila.

Abu Bakkar Siddique, 26, son of Ekim Sheikh of Magri village had fallen in love with Khadiza Khatun, daughter of Abdullah Shaikh of Kakshiali village. They left house and married on February 4.

Abu Bakkar died at Khulna Sadar Hospital on February 10 from injuries he suffered allegedly from beating.

Mujibar Rahman, elder brother of the victim, filed a case with Kaligonj thana accusing 12 people including the eight. But four of the accused-- Abdulla Sheikh, Arizul, Shidul and Sirajul--have been dropped from the charge sheet.

Mujibar Rahman told this correspondent that he will submit a ''Naraji'' petition against the charge sheet.
