Three fake NGO officials held in Satkhira

Three officials of a fake NGO named Sebok were arrested by police from Kukhrali here on Sunday.

The arrested persons are District Officer Motiur Rahman, son of Abu Sufian of Laxmi Narayan Cotton Mills area in Siddhirgonj upazila, Narayanganj, Field Officer Kamal Hossain, son of Abdul Kader Mia of 14/1, Mirpur, Dhaka and Office Assistant Taifa Hasan Shila, daughter of Altaf Hossain of Puraton Satkhria.

They were arrested for allegedly cheating their hundreds of clients who deposited over Tk one crore in hope of loans.

However, Project Officer and the founder of the NGO Mehedi Hasan, Managing Director Parvez Bhuiyan and Audit Officer Rakib Hasan fled away.

According to police the frauds collected Tk 1,000 from each depositor with an assurance of giving loan amounting to Tk 10,000 per head. This way they collected over Tk one crore.

Being deprived of loans, the depositors discovered that they had been cheated by the so-called NGO officials. Ultimately, they took police help who arrested the cheats.
