'Outlaw' killed in shootout with police

In another incident, police rescued a kidnapped schoolgirl on the same day.

Alleged outlaw Nekbar Ali Mantu alias Mantu Dakat, 39, was killed in the shootout in Palla village.

Tipped-off, a team of Coat-chadpur police led by OC Gazi Ahsan Habib went to the village when cadres of outlawed Biplobi Communist Party (BCP) led by Mantu were holding a meeting.

Sensing presence of police, the gang opened fire. Police also returned shots.

After an hour-long shootout, police found the bullet-hit Mantu. Others fled away.

Police said at least 75 bullets were traded during the fight.

Police recovered a Shutter Gun.

Police sent the body to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

Police said, there were several cases including some for murder against Mantu, filed with different thanas in the areas. Mantu hailed from Mothpara in Coatchadpur.

In the other incident, police rescued kidnapped schoolgirl Kakali Kahtun, 13 and arrested the alleged kidnapper, Sahid Sarwar, from Naldanga village in Mohespur upazila in the district.

Kakali, student of Fotepur Girls High School was abducted on October 28 from Fotepur bus stand when she was returning home from school.
