A library that enlightens children

The library, Gano Unnayan Library, a branch of Dhaka based Community Development Library (CDL) caters to the intellectual needs of readers of all ages and genders since 1990. Initially established on the V-Aid Road here with only 50 books, the library has now, in its capacity, 10,000 books of all categories. Local and national dailies, magazines and periodicals are also available here. Over three lakh readers are its direct beneficiaries during the decade. On average, over 90 male and female readers including 20 children come to the library daily.
The most attractive feature of the library is its children's section named Children's World. Besides educating children, the library makes children aware about child rights. Fascinating cartoons including Meena cartoons, drawing, books on child rights, posters on different issues created by UNICEF and UNESCO have enriched the Children's World.
Besides, performing its routine programme, Gano Unnayan Library organises discussion meetings and workshops on different social issues where members of civil society take part.
Not only that the library also comes to the aid of NGOs and students.
