Clashes leave 70 injured in Satkhira

At least 70 people were injured in four separate incidents in the district on Eid Day and Tuesday.

Police said 40 people were wounded in a clash between the supporters of the ruling BNP and the Awami League over establishing supremacy at Batra village in Kalaroa upazila on Tuesday.

Of the injured, Golam Mustafa, 30, Riaz Sardar, 50, Ashraf, 30, Afazuddin, 32, Banuara Begum, 45, Saira Begum, 30, Okeya Bibi, 55, Zinat Morol, 35, his wife Kalima Bibi, 30, and son Shahin, 2, and Shawkat Ali, 55, were admitted to Kalaroa Hospital.

Police recorded a case filed on behalf of the BNP supporters and arrested four people - Abdur Rab Master, Sirajul Islam, Nargis and Asgar Ali.

In another incident, at least 10 people were injured in a clash between the members of a club at Tujulpur village in Sadar upazilla Tuesday noon. Injured people were admitted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital.

Meanwhile, eight people were injured in a clash over offering Eid prayers at Eidgah Maidan in Munjitpur of the district town on Monday.

Witnesses said the clash erupted when Pesh Imam Maolana Mazed completed the prayers with seven `takbir' instead of the stipulated six.

In yet another incident, 12 people were wounded over selecting the Imam at Purba Dahakula Eidgah Maidan in the district town at about 8:30am on the Eid Day.
