Tribal youth abducted from Rangamati

The youth is Jioti Lal Chakma, 26, son of Nabeen Kumar Chakma of Panchhari village in Kawkhali upazila.

Jioti came here to participate in the Kathin Chibor Dan festival on Thursday when a group of 10 youths abducted him from his relative Dhono Kumar Chakma's house at gun point, police said.

Sources close to Dhono's family said Jioti is the younger brother of United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) leader Jibon Kumar Chakma.

Kotwali Thana Duty Officer Abdus Sasttar said Jibon is now undergoing imprisonment in Rangamati jail under an arms case. 'Jioti might have been abducted by his rivals', police sources suspected.
