UP member arrested by Rab
A Union Parishad (UP) member was arrested and two rounds of cartridges were recovered from him by Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on Friday night.
Arrested Manowar Hussein, 35, is a UP member of Chandramohan in Sadar upazila and BNP president of Ward No 8 of the union.
He was arrested from Barisal launch ghat area. He was sentenced to suffer rigorous imprisonment (RI) for 108 years under Public Safety Act during Awami League regime. He was granted bail by the High Court after filing appeal.
He was handed over to police and sent to jail on Saturday afternoon. According to police, there are allegations of extortion and illegal toll collection against him.
