Only campaign can sanitise villages

Only two years ago, most people in the villages could of think of such a situation.

The achievement is the result of creation of awareness by the Upazila Parishad, Union Parishad, government officials and Public Health Engineering Department (PHED).

"We only created awareness among the villagers that sanitation will keep them free from common diseases like diarrhoea, dysentery " said DPHE Executive Engineer Abdul Hamid.

Amid cheers from hundreds, Satkhira Deputy Commissioner Md. Elias at a function held on Ratanpur UP office premises on Sunday declared the union cent percent sanitised.

Ratanpur UP Chairman Abdul Wahed presided over the function, also addressed by PHED Executive Engineer Abdul Hamid and Kaligonj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sheikh Mohammad Moniruzzaman and Dhalbaria UP Chairman Abdul Sattar, Prof. Tamiz uddin, Altaf Hossain, PHED Engineer A.K.M Samsu-zzaman.

Many of the villagers this correspondent talked to said their children now use sanitary toilet, soap for post-defection cleanliness, cut nails and wash hands before taking meals.
