Gangni municipal polls tomorrow
Eight candidates are vying for the post, two from ruling BNP, one from BNP's youth front Jubo dal, three from opposition Awami League (AL) and one each from Jamaat-e-Islami and Jatyia Party (JP-Ershad).
The post fell vacant after the killing of Amirul Islam on September 27, allegedly by outlaws.
The contestants are Atiar Rahman and Golam Mehedi of BNP; Mahbul Hossain Meghla of Judo Dal; Nazrul Islam, Golam Mustafa and Ahemed Ali of Awami League; Mohosin Ali of JP and Rabiul Islam of Jamaat.
This will be the second chairman election in the municipality establishing in 2002.
The first election was held on May 13, 2002, in which independent candidate Amirul Islam won, defeating a ruling coalition candidate.
The local administration has said they have taken all security measures to ensure a free, fair and peaceful election.
