3 alleged traffickers freed

Release of three women and three traffickers by a Union Parishad (UP) chairman from the custody of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) has created sensation in the area recently.

According to eye-witnesses, a BDR team on Saturday arrested three traffickers, Abul Hossain, 40, of Bashdaha village, Golam Rabbani, 28, of Kazipar village and Mukul, 25, of Hawalkhali village in Sadar upazila and three women, Nargis, 18, of Bashdaha village in Sadar upazila, Hosna, 20, of Sannasichak village in Kaliganj upazila and Moina, 20, of Manirampur upazila in Jessore. The women were being trafficked to India from zero point identifying themselves as traffickers' wives. BDR took them to Taluigachha BDR camp.

The women were being trafficked to India and the three traffickers were arrested by BDR morning from zero point near at Taluigachha border areas, were later released from Taluigachha BDR camp.

Being informed, Banshdaha UP chairman Helaluzzaman rushed to the BDR camp and beat them. Afterwards, he took release of the traffickers and the women from BDR custody.

While contacted, Major Arif, Second-in-Command of 12 Rifles Battalion confirmed the incident saying the women had been going to India to work at a brick field. The chairman gave a bond and took release of them from BDR custody, he added.
