College student lynched

The tragic incident took place in Rupatoli area of the city.

Police and local people said Amrita Halder, a resident of the area, raised a hue and cry in the morning that a thief entered his house.

Neighbours came and caught Sanaul Karim (25), who was hiding in the toilet in the courtyard of the house.

They beat Sanaul and left him in critical condition in front of a patrol pump there.

The victim was sent to Barisal Shere Bangla Medical College Hospital at about 6 am. He died there at about 8 am.

Police arrested Ganesh Halder, the house owner.

Sanaul is the son of Abdul Wahed Master of Guaton village in Jhalakati.

Relatives of Sanaul claimed that he was a first year student of Guaton College and had no previous criminal record.

He had come to visit his sister-in-law Shamsul Alam, head clerk at Barisal BIWTC office, a day before the incident, it was gathered.
