Lone diabetes hospital in Madaripur faces closure

This is due to alleged mismanagement and conflict among the employees of the hospital which include nurse, night guard, technician and maids. At one stage of their conflict, only physician of the hospital resigned from his job recently.

The hospital was founded on the bank of Shokuni lake during 1990s with financial assistance of Howlader family. But ultimately the hospital faced shortage of fund.

Madaripur Deputy commissioner (DC) Kazi Nasirul Islam, also chairman of the hospital managing committee entrusted Madaripur Pourashava to look after the administration of the hospital. Dr Golam Sarwar joined the hospital as honorary physician.

About 200 patients take treatment in the hospital at a nominal fee to meet up the monthly salary of employees and to purchase testing equipment. Due to financial crisis and mismanagement, Dr Sarwar resigned from his job.

While contacted, Babu Chow-dhury, Chairman of Madaripur Pourasabha assured this correspondent to appoint a new doctor in near future.

Diabetic patients and the social workers have urged the authorities concerned to solve the issue without further delay.
