Lax probe lingers trial of 19 sensational murder cases in Chuadanga

Of them, nine are under trail, hearing of two are adjourned by higher court and the rest eight are still under investigation by police.

The victims include journalists, political leaders and a minor girl, gangraped and murder.

According to sources, the district law and order meeting held on December 12 last year had ordered police and other agencies concerned to hasten investigation for quick disposal of the cases.

But there has been virtually no progress in probe in most of the cases, it was gathered from sources.

"We are trying out best" a top police official in Chuadanga told this correspondent when contacted on Thursday.

"Instructions have given to different agencies investigating the cases", he said seeking anonymity.

There is no progress in trail of journalist Bazlur Rahman murder case as four out of fifteen of the accused were killed, allegedly by their rival's. Bazlur Rahman was killed in 1998.

The main accused in the case -- Nuruzzaman alias Laltu-- is now in jail but the rest accused are yet to be nabbed.

Hearing of the case in District Judge's Court is scheduled for January 12 but there will be no progress as police are yet to make any headway in probe, sources said.

Hearing of industrialist and the then BRDB chairman Asabul Haq Asa murder case was scheduled for January 2 but postponed due to absence of witnesses.

One of the two prime accused in the case-- Zinarul --was killed in crossfire with Rab (Rapid action Battalion) last month. Bazlur was killed in December 4, 2001.

The most sensational schoolgirl Eva rape and murder case is under trail in the District Sessions Judge's Court.

All the six accused in the case are on bail. The gang raped and killed the 7-year old girl after abduction in 2003.

There has not been any progress in the trial of 8 year-old Babita rape and murder case as the main witness-- Gahar Ali -- was killed last year.

But the prime accused in the rape and murder case-- notorious terrorist Siraj alias Butcher Siraj -- is now on bail. This has raised questions among many.

Trail of Gahar Ali murder case has been transferred to the Speedy Trail Tribunal, Khulna. The case is on the list of sensation cases. Its hearing is scheduled for January 18.

The sensational 7-murder case in Bishnupur in Damurhuda upazila is still with court. Ali Hossain murder case is also on the list of sensational cases.

Probe into the murders of BNP leader Shafi Uddin, Abdul Haq and Abdul Kader has not progressed. Shafi, Haq and kader were killed on November 23, March 29 and April l1 respectively last year.

Police however arrested five persons in Haq murder case but all got bail from a Magistrate Court. None has been arrested in Shafi and Kader murder cases.

Businessman Abdul Haq was killed in March 24 last year. Police arrested 11 people and three of them are on bail. Police investigation is on, sources said.

Police could not submit any probe report on Union Parishad member Salekin murder case in two years.

Police arrested 17 persons in advocate Sazzad murder case, but could not file any charge sheet. He was killed on March 12 last year.

CID probe into UP chairman and Awami League leader Ali Hossain murder case is virtually stalled now after the prime accused --Kota-- was killed in a 'crossfire' with police on November 9, sources in CID said.

Trail of 8-murder case in Kulbila cluster village in Damurhuda upazila was adjourned by a High Court order. Hearing was scheduled for January 18.
