Fake note trade!
They have developed a strong network of criminals to run the trade. They sell a fake 500 taka note at Tk 250 to Tk 300 and a 100 taka note at Tk 50 to Tk 60 to their agents.
Sources said the criminals are evading police as some of the ring-leaders are BNP leaders and some others are sheltered by the ruling party.
Intelligence agency man recently gave a report in this regard against one of the ring leaders from Barangasony village in Khaloo Upazila but police could not arrest him because he is a BNP leader.
Earlier, on December 28, a BNP leader hailing from Shaimabari village in Shairpur upazila was arrested with 1437 fake of Tk 500 denomination but was released, said a senior police official. He was caught when he along with some of his accomplices was going to the upazila head quarter to hand over the fake currency note to an agent, Meher Uddin.
The police official said Meher Uddin has been involved in circulating fake notes for long. He is now absconding, the police official said.
Officer-in-Charge of Bogra Sadar thana Monur Mondal said, some of BNP leaders involved in the fake currency note business are also linked to trading on illegally imported motorcycles from across the border.
