Police take case 2 years after rape, murder

Jessore Kotwali police recorded a rape and murder case on Monday, about two and a half years after the incident.

The ease was recorded after a court order.

Thirteen year-old Rakha Khatun, daughter of Tofazzol of Nurpur village, was gangraped and strangled on a field near her house on the night of July 7, 2002.

Her father had gone to Kotwali police to file a case. But police reclined as the culprits were influential, he told this correspondent yesterday.

They had also threatened him not to complain to police.

Finally, Tofazzol lodged a complaint with a Magistrate court here. The court ordered police to record a rape and murder case.

The accused are Bellal, Dulal Mollah, Shimul and Rokon of Dakathia village in the Sadar upazila.
