Alleged culprit appeals for stay of transfer order
Former Officer in-Charge of the Sadar LSD (Local Supply Depot) Abu Jahangir who had been transferred to Moheshpur LSD for alleged misappropriation of grain has appealed to the High Court for stay order of his transfer notice, according to a high official of the Food Department in Jhenidah.
However, the official told The Daily Star that Abu Jahangir had been trying his reinstatement 'only to conceal his corrupt act.'
The stock-taking of food at the Sadar LSD is also yet to begin. District Food Controller (DFC) Md Hafizur Rahman could not tell the time or date of stock-taking to this correspondent. Rahman said, 'It depends upon the magistrate, Akramuzzaman.' The Deputy Commissioner (DC) has deputed the magistrate to supervise the stock-taking of grain after receiving my letter of request, he added.
The Zonal Food Controller has sealed off the silos following submission of a written complaint by the OC of Jhenidah Sadar LSD, Rafiqul Alam mentioning that 20 metric tons of grain had been misappropriated by his predecessor, Abu Jahangir.
About 1,303 metric tons of rice and 155 metric tons of wheat were stored in the silos, according to officials.
