'Khas' land for the landless demanded

The discussion was organised jointly by Bhumi Adhikar Bastabayan Parishad (Land Rights Implemen-tation Committee) and local NGO, Uttaran being financed by national NGO, Manusher Jannyo.

It was held at Satkhira Unnayan Kendra with advocate Abdur Rahim in the chair.

Speakers called upon the landless to get united. They demanded for preparation of a list of 'khas' land and urged the government to take stern action against land grabbers. Later, a 45-member committee of Bhumi Adhikar Bastabayan Parishad was formed being headed by advocate Abdur Rahim as its convener.

Among others, Prof Abu Ahmed, Subhash Chowdhury, Kalyan Banerjee, Uttaran director Shahidul Islam, former upazila chairman Omar Farooq, Union Parishad chairmen Yunus Ali and Abdur Razzaque Malangi, advocate Mazharul Islam, Gazi Gauhar, Principal Ashek-e- Elahi and Anisur Rahim.
