CID likely to be submit fresh charge sheet within 15 days

CID Inspector Mohiuddin Ahmed told The Daily Star the charge sheet would be submitted within 15 days.

The case was transferred to CID in July, 2003 for further investigation and submission of fresh charge sheet following submission a 'naraji' (no-confidence) petition. Earlier, the Detective Branch(DB) of police submitted the charge sheet.

The victim, Zahida Khatun, daughter of poor farmer Raihanui-ddin Joarder of Boroichara village in Sreepur upazila, appeared at the HSC examination from Dariapur College in 2002.

She secured first division in the HSC examination from Humanities group. But she could not know the result at she was raped and strangled by miscreants on July 5, 2002.

At that time Zahida was returning home from her friend's house. Miscreants allegedly led by Mamun of Dariapur village dragged her to a jute field and killed her after gangrape.

According to local people, Mamun was handed over to police by his elder brother the same day only to save himself from public wrath. After a few days, he was released on bail.

Local administration put the case on the list of sensitive cases and sent it to DB police for investigation on August 27, 2002.

After investigation for about eight months, DB Inspector Shahidul Islam submitted two charge sheets on April 26, 2003 under Woman and Child Repression Prevention Act.
