Meherpur BSCIC estate now produces radish!

Influential persons in collaboration with corrupt BSCIC staffers allegedly cultivated radish in the entire estate.

About 3,6000 maunds of radish worth Tk 4.5 lakh were produced this season.

An official decision was taken to set up BSCIC industrial estates in four southwestern districts of Chuadanga, Magura, Narail and Meherpur on priority basis under Fifth Five-year Plan (1995-2000).

Accordingly, lands were acquired by the administration for the purpose in October, 1997. The BSCIC authorities sold 10 acres of land valued Tk 12,63,660 in Basantapur area on the Kushtia-Meherpur Road.

After sand filling at a cost of Tk 1 crore and 9 lakh, the then industries minister laid the foundation stone of the estate on August 22, 2003. Construction work of an administrative building began at a cost of Tk 21,29,150. After finishing about 60 per cent work of the building, the work was stopped due to lack of fund.

Meanwhile, the BSCIC authorities also stopped plot sanction to prospective entrepreneurs on a plea of legal bar.
