Ruta election on January 16

White Panel backed by BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami and Yellow Panel backed by Awami League (AL) and left-leaning organisations are contesting the election.

Polling will be held at Juberee Bhaban from 8 am to 2 pm without break.

Former Ruta Treasurer Prof Anik Mahmud of Bangla Department will act as election commissioner.

The Yellow Panel candidates for the posts of president and general secretary are Prof Mozaffar Hossain of the Department of Applied Physics and Prof Anando Kumar Shaha of the Department of Zoology and those of White Panel are university Syndicate member Prof Nazrul Islam of the Department of Accounting and Prof Abdul Hai Talukder of the Department of Logic.

Prof Muhammad Naser of the Department of Statistics, Prof Rabiul Islam of the Department of Social Works and Prof Chowdhury Zakaria of the Department of Chemistry will contest for the posts of vice president, joint secretary and treasurer from Yellow Panel. Prof Abul Baser Mia of the Department of Statistics, Prof AKM Golam Rabanni Mandol of the Department of Marketing and Abdul Wahab of the Department of Geography and Environment Science are the White Panel candidates for the aforesaid posts.

The member candidates from Yellow Panel are Prof Entajul Haque of the Department of Chemistry and Prof Dr Fayquzzman of the Department of Islamic History and Culture.

White Panel candidates for the posts of members are Prof Sarwar Jahan of the Institute of Environmental Science and Prof Saifuddin Chowdhury of the Department of Folklore.

About 893 voters are likely to exercise their franchise.
