Free society from fanaticism

They were addressing a commemorative meeting held at Bankri High School ground at Amol Sen's native village in Bagharpura upazila in Jessore on the second death anniversary of the great leader. A two-day fair was also organised there on the occasion.

Aman Sen was a leader of the Tebhaga Andolon (farmers' movement for greater share of crops), a pioneer in communist movement in Bangladesh and one of the organisers of the War of Independence.

Monday's programme began with placing of wreaths by leaders at the Amol Sen Memorial in the morning.

With Sukumar Das in the chair, the meeting was addressed by among others, Workers Party President Rashed Khan Memon, its Secretary General Bimol Biswas and party leader Iqbal Kabir Jahid, CPB (Communist Party of Bangladesh) General Secretary Mujahidul Islam Selim, Gano Azadi League President Abdus Samad, Shammyabadi Dal central leader Abu Hamid Shahbuddin andRabindra Nath Biswas.

Menon said, Amal Sen did not belong to any party. He was a leader of the downtrodden and all left parties drew inspiration from him.

"We shall have to take a vow to materialise the dream of Amal Sen and finish his unfinished task", he said.

On the occasion, the roads in neighboring ten villages including Kamalpur, Ghoranach, Dogachi, Hatiara, Bakli, Maliat and Tularampur were decorated with red flags and banners. Several colourful gates were also erected.

Thousands of men, women and children paid homage to the lake leader of the Tebhaga movement.
