4 cops among 200 hurt in B'Baria clash

Police arrested 16 people from the spot.

The clash ensued when one person-- Asgar Ali-- demanded repayment of loan money from Manzu Mia, police and witnesses said.

As they were locked in a brawl after an altercation, their supporters came in and fell upon each other with lethal weapons. They chased each other during the intermittent clashes that lasted for about three hours from noon.

Being informed, a police team headed by Nasirnagar thana OC Md. Nazrul Isalm rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Police used batons and fired 14 blank shots and five tear gas shells, police said.

The injured police are SI Md. Abdul Karim and constables Mashiur Rahman, Ashish Sharma and Guljar Mia.

Twenty-one of the injured people have been admitted to hospitals. The ten seriously injured people at Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital are Iman Ali, Fakrul, Diashir Mia, Maraz Mia, Faisal Mia, Abu Jamal, Sarwar, Tajul Isalm, RamzaN Mia and Asgar Ali.

Eleven people admitted to Nasirnagar Thana Health Complex are Sahid Mia, Ahad Mia, Shah Alam, Kuddus Mia, Suttu Mia, Insan Mia, Hafizul Mia, Safiullah, Nazrul Islam, Jahirul Islam, and Arab Ali.

The rest were given first aid at Nasirnagar and Sarail health complexes, Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital and at some private clinics.

Police have been deployed at the village. Any case is yet to be filed.
