Schools ignore Education Directorate order

At least 60 such trained women are now jobless in the district though schools are recruiting teachers, often with alleged bribery or donation, sources claimed. The 60 are among 784 rural women trained under the project in Rajshahi division.

The training was aimed at providing rural women graduates with jobs in non-government high schools.

Since launch of the programme in 1998, 910 educated rural women completed B-Ed course but only 126 of them were absorbed in schools, they said.

As per the directive, non-government high schools have to recruit 30 per cent of teachers from among those trained under the Promote Project.

The Project Liaison Officer in Rangpur, Khandokar Din Mohammad when contacted said Tk one and half lakh is given to schools by the project for recruiting women under the programme. But many schools do not take this advantage to appoint their "desired candidates".

He however said appointment of 90 trained women is in process now.

He said if educated rural women trained under the project, the financial assistance from donors will be taken back. The project period expires in December this year.
