Sylhet AL protests Sunday's 'attack by BNP'

The programme announced yesterday at a press conference at Sylhet Press Club includes processions and a rally at Court Point.

Mayor Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran, who is also city AL chief, told the press conference that least 50 AL leaders and activists were injured in the actions by police and ruling party men on Sunday.

He said ruling party men led by M Ilyas Ali MP and Ariful Haque Chowdhury and backed by police attacked AL's peaceful programmes protesting the killing of SAMS Kibria and 4 party leaders in Habiganj.

Ruling party activists also openly brandished firearms on streets during the attacks, he claimed.

The press conference was also addressed by Sylhet district AL president ANM Shafique and general secretary Iftekhar Hossain Shamim, former minister Dewan Farid Gazi MP, former MP Shah Azizur Rahman and city AL general secretary Misbah Uddin Siraj.
