School girl, farmer abducted in Meherpur, Chuadanga
A gang of abductors stormed into the house of a farmer named Abdul Latif at Juginda village in Meherpur. They picked up his son Abdul Mannan, 26, for non-payment of illegal toll amounting to Tk 30,000 demanded by them earlier, according sources in the victim's family and police.
Later, they demanded Tk one lakh as ransom from Latif.
When contacted, police told this correspondent they heard about the incident but nobody filed any complaint against anybody.
Family sources told The Daily Star the abductors threatened them not to file any case with police.
The family is trying to establish contact with the abductors in their own way, according to a family relative.
In another incident, a Jubo Dal (JJD) leader, youth wing of BNP kidnapped the schoolgirl from Darshana in Chuadanga.
A student of class seven of Darshana Girls' High School named Jinia Khatun was kidnapped by Jubo Dal leader of Damurhuda upazila unit named Jony,
The girl was abducted when she was going to Darshana Bazar at about 11 in the morning, according to witnesses.
Jinia's father Jahangir Hossain filed a case accusing Jony, according to Damurhuda police.
According to witnesses, the Jubo Dal leader picked her up forcibly into a microbus and drove away fast.
Jony used to tease Jinia and proposed to marry her. But her father turned down the proposal, according to a general diary (GD) filed by Jinia's father Jahangir.
When contacted, Damurhuda police told this correspondent they are trying to trace out the girl and arrest the kidnapper.
