Private medical college closed in Rangpur

in an order issued on February 1 closed the Northern Private Medical College in Rangpur due to alleged irregularities and mismanagement.

This has made fate of 143 uncertain.

Some of the affected students, joined by their guardians, at a press conference at Rangpur Reporters' Club on Tuesday said their life has been ruined by the government decision. Many of the students were in the fourth year and they have no scope for further education.

Shafiqul Isalm chowdhury, father of one of the students from Kurigram, said he spent about Tk 7 lakh in last three years for his son's education. Now his son's future is uncertain.

The closure order that reached the college was signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Alea Akter of the ministry.

It said the ministry had allowed the college authorities to enroll students under certain conditions but they could not fulfil those within the time frame.

Besides, they admitted 100 students in excess without permission from the authorities.

The students and guardians held a rally on the college campus on Tuesday and urged the government to make alternative arrangement for the affected students.
