Pak FM visits Japan for talks on non-proliferation

Pakistani Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri arrived in Japan yesterday on a three-day visit for talks expected to touch on nuclear non-proliferation.

Kasuri met after his arrival with Shoichi Nakagawa, Japan's economy, trade and industry minister, who visited Pakistan last month and announced a resumption of yen loans.

Kasuri was due to hold talks with Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and Foreign Minister Nobutaka Machimura on Tuesday.

The Japanese foreign ministry said the fight against terrorism and nuclear non-proliferation would be key issues during the visit.

Disgraced Pakistani scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan admitted a year ago that he proliferated nuclear technology to states including North Korea, which is in a showdown with Japan and other nations about its nuclear ambitions.
