US ponders resolution on intercepting N Korean shipments
The administration of President George W. Bush is debating whether to seek a UN resolution empowering all nations to intercept shipments in or out of North Korea that may contain nuclear materials, The New York Times reported yesterday.
Citing unnamed senior administration officials and diplomats, the newspaper said the resolution envisioned by a growing number of senior administration officials would amount to a quarantine of North Korea.
It would enable the United States and other nations to intercept shipments in international waters off the Korean Peninsula and to force down aircraft for inspection, the report said.
