Road barricade for arrest of Plabon’s killers

Our Correspondent, Gaibandha
Several thousand school students, joined by their teachers and people from all walks of life, barricaded the Rangpur-Bogra highway yesterday at Palashbari for an hour demanding arrest and punishment of the killers of meritorious student Rejbul Haq Plabon.

Plabon got GPA-5 in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination this year but he was beaten to death on June 14 allegedly by some BNP activists before the results were published.

The road barricade caused a long snarl-up of vehicles on both sides of the road.

A spontaneous rally at the spot declared that tougher agitation will be launched if the killers are not nabbed immediately.

The rally was addressed by, among others, Nazrul Islam, Golam Mostafa, Abu Taleb and Monwarul Islam.

Plabon was a student of Palashbari SM Pilot High School.

Police have been deployed in the area.

Gaibandha police yesterday said they raided different areas in Polashbari upazila but could not nab any of the killers.

Meanwhile, Polashbari thana Officer-in-Charge Badsha Mia has been stand-released for failure to improve the law and order situation in the upazila, police sources said.
