80 trawlers looted, 100 fishermen injured

Two fishermen are missing after the left at least 100 fishermen injured. The missing fishermen are Isahaq, 35, and Sirajul Islam, 31.

Reports received from victims in said five notorious pirate gangs led by Bashar of Jainal Speaker Bahini, Shakha of Alauddin Bahini, and Bachchu of Bachchu Bahini swooped on fishing trawlers in Moulavir Char, Kewrar Char, Char Tazammul and in remote coastal areas in Ramgati and Hatiya.

The pirate gangs on board 15 trawlers continued their swoop till Friday morning.

Some of the trawler owners, when contacted over cell phone, said most of the fishermen were from Munshiganj, Chandpur, Shariatpur and Bhola districts.

They said the pirates indiscriminately beat the fishermen and threw many of them into water. They were rescued by other trawlers Friday morning.

Mozammel Hossain, Officer- in-Charge of Tazuuddin police station acknowledging the incident and said police and Coast Guard were sent to the spot.

He said at least 40 of the injured fishermen are being treated in different hospitals in the area.

No case was filed when the report was filed yesterday afternoon.
